Benefits of Dial Before You Dig Membership

Dial Before You Dig is a not for profit organisation that delivers a vital national community service designed to assist in preventing damage and disruption to Australia’s vast infrastructure networks.

Our unique service is used by most of Australia’s major infrastructure asset owners, including various community organisations and Local Government Councils, covering approximately 740,000 kilometres of underground assets nationally.

Utilities become members of Dial Before You Dig to protect assets including water, sewerage and road reserves, as well as preserving, protecting and maintaining park lands, street trees, shrines and cultural heritage sites accessible to the community.

With an ever-growing number of works around infrastructure assets, the main benefit that Members receive from Dial Before You Dig is information. Registered Members receive valuable information on what type of work will be conducted, performed by whom, the ability to contact the enquirer and when the work will occur around their registered infrastructure asset(s).

Dial Before You Dig’s distinctive service is seen as a single point of contact to request information about any infrastructure networks at the planned project site without the need to contact utility organisations individually; ensuring Members receive the most comprehensive information on the protection of the registered infrastructure asset(s).

Member will also gain access to the data collection and reporting tool, the Infrastructure Damage Reporting System (IDRS) – designed to build a comprehensive picture in relation to damage incidents associated with excavation activities nationally.

Dial Before You Dig also supports Members by providing Training and Awareness sessions FREE of charge. Offering a range of topics of discussion; from how the Dial Before You Dig service works to safe site practices.

To find out more or organise a FREE Training and Awareness session, please visit the Training webpage.

Any excavation project, irrespective of size, has the potential to damage assets; leading to service interruptions, delays, costly repairs to asset owners and in the worst-case scenario, injury or death to council employees or contract staff.

Dial Before You Dig membership minimises these risks to Members and the public. Safety is a fundamental aspect of any excavation project and so Dial Before You Dig should always be the first point of contact: The Essential First Step.
